                                                  BIODIVERSITY PARK VISIT

‘Biodiversity is the key so that we can all live in Glee’.

DPS, Dwarka Expressway, Sector 102A, Gurugram organized an environmental educational visit to a Biodiversity Park on 30th October’18. Lush Green Park was spread across an area of 19 acres in Gurugram. The park has around 150 species of plants which act as a host plant and nectar plant for butterflies. A part of this park section has a dedicated walking track for those who like to go for a walk. The garden consists of abundant flora & fauna and play area for children where they can enjoy free play, jumping, hopping and many more games. Educators created awareness regarding the importance of plants and animals to maintain a healthy environment. Students discussed the various ways to curb pollution due to which many types of plants and animals are getting extinct day by day. Students were able to feel and compare the difference between the fresh air in the park and air around their houses. They pledged to plant more and more trees to save the environment and spread the message wherever they go.

                                                              Halloween Day

‘It’s Halloween, everyone’s entitled to one good scare’.

The tradition of Halloween started in the European countries during ancient times when the last evening of summer was celebrated as the day when people lit fires and dressed as ghosts believing that this would ward off evil spirits. Keeping this in mind the students of the pre-primary grade of DPS, Dwarka Expressway, Sec 102A celebrated Halloween Day on 26th October 2018. Students dressed up in many characters like zombies, skeletons, witches, fairies etc. and participated in Halloween fancy dress competition with great enthusiasm. Later our little monsters went for Trick a Treat in Primary classes and got the treat from the educators. Our little tots enjoyed craft making activity related to the Halloween day to make it more memorable.

                                                                       ‘Truth is always Victorious’.

To celebrate Dussehra, Delhi Public School, Dwarka Expressway, Sector 102-A, Gurugram got into the festive mode with a vibrant and lively special assembly. The assembly commenced by evoking almighty’s blessings and expressing gratitude for all that he provides. This was followed by the rendition of poems that glorified Lord Rama and the virtues that he symbolizes. Little buds from Pre-primary dressed as Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Laxman, Bharat, Shatrughan, and King Ravana added to the uniqueness of the entire celebration. The assembly also witnessed an electrifying ‘Garba dance’ performance by the students of grade 4. Elated students, holding colorful sticks and dancing in vibrant traditional attires, were a sight to behold. Our kindergarten students adorned in attractive outfits, presented scenes to summarize the great epic Ramayana and emphasized on the values learned from the various characters. The highlight of the celebration was burning the cracker free effigy of the king Ravana at the school ground. All the students, Head Mistress Ms. Sumita Gupta, educators, and administrative department wrote an aspect of their personality which needs a change on a small cut out and pasted it on the effigy, as a symbolic step to eliminate that evil completely from their life. The cracker free effigy was burnt by respected Head Mistress Ms. Sumita Gupta amidst loud chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The celebration culminated with the cultivation of marigold seeds by each and every class, that marked their yearning to let the good blossom within them spreading the fragrance in all directions and show responsibility towards the environment.

                                                                                                     WHITE CANE DAY

‘When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it’.

Students of Delhi Public School, Dwarka Expressway, Sector 102 A, Gurugram got actively involved in a range of activities designed to mark ‘White Cane Day’ on 15th October 2018. To begin, a student volunteer was blindfolded to act as a blind person and was asked to reach a certain target in the classroom. They were also told to identify certain objects kept before them with their eyes closed and identify them. The activities helped the students understand the struggles faced by a blind person and understand the importance of vision. This was followed by showing the students a short film on the life of Louis Braille, the inventor of the method which helps the blind people fulfill their desire to read. Looking at the Braille coding, the students understood the efforts one has to put into writing books for the visually impaired and more so to read them just by feeling the letters with a finger. Students then tried writing small words and sentences using Braille codes. Students were also sensitized with the various aids, especially white cane, using which the user can scan the surroundings for obstacles or orientation marks. ‘Eye Donation’ was discussed as a gesture to help the people who are blind and alive. The activities intrigued and educated the students about blindness and how the visually impaired can live independently while overcoming the impediments.
